![]() How We Define Success?
Here at HabiJax, we look at success a little differently than most. To us success is the back door flying open and a little boy running out to play in his own back yard. Or a mother watching her child crawl on a clean, safe living room floor in a house she owns. It’s when the night starts getting cold and a family can turn on central heat and sleep peacefully knowing that their house won’t catch fire from the heater. Success is achieved every month when more than a one thousand four hundred HabiJax homeowners write out checks for their own mortgage payment. We build houses, but more than that, we help families improve the skills it takes to be successful in life. Our Habitat for Humanity affiliate is one of the most successful in the country because our community is committed like no other to helping families gain independence through home ownership. And when each HabiJax house is completed and the family moves in, there are hundreds of volunteers and donors who feel a sense of accomplishment and joy in their hearts.
At HabiJax, we believe that helping people own a safe, affordable home is the greatest success of all. |
Facts and Figures
In 2005, house prices rose a record 9.4% nationally-the largest increase in more than 40 years.^ In Jacksonville, the median sales price for existing single-family homes was $197,900 (as of October 2006) while the median household income was barely $46,000*-putting homeownership far out reach for many working families.
