Building your Home
Once you are selected for a HabiJax home, you become a “partner family”. To complete your partnership, you must perform a minimum of 300 hours of volunteer work with HabiJax, which will count towards your total “sweat equity” contribution for your home. You will work alongside volunteers in constructing your home and the homes of other HabiJax families. Doing tasks like clearing the lot, painting, and helping with construction is what we all call “sweat equity.”
Acceptance to partner with HabiJax also affords you the opportunity to participate in Homeowner Educational Workshops including:
- Budgeting
- Maintaining Your Home
- Insurance
- Closing and Understanding Your Mortgage
- Neighborhood Association Meetings
- Neighborhood Panel Discussions
