There are no categorical barriers to obtaining housing through HabiJax, including race, color, religion, gender, handicap, familial status or national origin.
The first step towards qualifying for a home is to call (904) 798-4529 to schedule an appointment or submit your interest form online. All orientations are by appointment only.
The basic criteria to qualify for a HabiJax home starts with being a Duval County resident for six (6) months. In addition, applicants must demonstrate:
Need - Inadequate current shelter because of problems with heating, water supply, structure safety, overcrowding, etc.
- More than 40% of income paid for housing
- Drug or crime-infested neighborhood
- Currently residing in Section 8 or public housing
Willingness to partner - Willingness to complete 300 plus hours of “sweat equity”
- Accept home in areas where we build
- Accept the Repurchase Agreement
- Particpate in Homebuyer Educational Workshops
Ability to pay - Must have had stable employment for at least one (1) year
- Stable, monthly income sufficient to meet routine expenses, maintain the house and make monthly mortgage payments
- Income must be between 30% to 60% of median income for Duval County
- Make a down payment of $500
- Acceptable credit (minimum FICO score of 600)
