The Craig Kearney Memorial Fund

Craig was born in Marietta, Georgia on Christmas Day 1989 to Michael and Barbara Kearney, and passed away on February 16, 2023 at Mayo Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. At six months old, testing found Craig was Deaf. God was looking out for Craig, as his mom was a teacher of the Deaf. In 1993, Craig was the 8th child in Georgia to receive a cochlear implant. Since the implant, Craig was hearing, speaking, and fluent in sign language.

Craig attended Cobb County, Georgia schools until moving to Florida to attend the Florida School for the Deaf in St Augustine in 2005. He graduated FSDB in 2009 and attended National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He graduated with an Associates in Computer Aided Design.

Craig returned to Jacksonville, Florida and received his associates in accounting from Florida State College. He was working toward his bachelor’s in accounting at University of North Florida. Craig’s first job was at Publix Supermarket when he was 15 years old. He worked at Publix throughout high school and returned after college. He was recently promoted to Customer Service Team Leader. He loved his job and his teammates at Publix.

Craig was an avid world traveler and loved cruising. His travels took him around the world including to China, the Middle East, Central America, Europe, and the Caribbean. Craig was an organ donor and through his gift, many individuals’ lives will be impacted.

Craig is survived by his parents Mike and Barb Kearney of St. Augustine, Florida and his sister Kimberly Kearney of Austin, Texas. He is the grandson of Denis (deceased) and Elizabeth Kearney and Paul John (deceased) and Penne Scaletta. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends as well as his Publix family.

A celebration of life service will be held at Creekside Christian Church on March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Sign language interpreting will be provided for the Deaf.
