Volunteer

HabiJax is a volunteer-driven organization.  Community volunteers play an essential role in our mission of eliminating substandard housing in Jacksonville. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways, both on the construction site and in non-construction capacities.  

To Volunteer in Construction or at the ReStore

New Volunteers
Please complete the New Volunteer registration.  Once registered, visit the Volunteer Calendar to schedule your volunteer day.  Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to work on a construction site, and 15 years old  to work in the ReStore.  

All volunteers must register and schedule online prior to volunteering.

Returning Volunteers
Using your login, visit the Volunteer Calendar to schedule your volunteer day.

Groups

• Determine the size of your group; we limit the number of group members to 20.
• Have 1 member complete the New Volunteer registration.
• Once registered, Create New Group.  Note:  Organization is a broad category under which many groups can be created.  If your group is volunteering on multiple days, you will need to create a group for each day.  
• Contact the Volunteer Services Department at (904) 208-6676 to schedule construction or ReStore volunteering.
• Once your group’s date is confirmed, have all group members complete New Volunteer registration prior to the volunteer date.
• Once your group’s date is confirmed, have all group members complete New Volunteer registration and Volunteer Pledge Campaign prior to the volunteer date.

Community Service (ReStore Only)
For court ordered community service, please contact the Volunteer Services Department at (904) 208-6676 to confirm approval before registering.  Individuals with drug-related, violent, or theft offenses are not accepted.  The Volunteer Services team will complete your paperwork or present you with a letter at the completion of your community service hours.


Volunteer Pledge Campaign
All volunteers are encouraged to participate in our Volunteer Pledge Campaign to further their support for HabiJax.  Similar to the Walk-a-thon concept, volunteers can collect pledges from friends and family prior to their volunteer hours, and bring the pledges with them to donate on their volunteer day. Instead of walking, volunteers will be collecting the pledges for building with HabiJax.  This is a great way for volunteers to spread the word about their volunteer activities and to get others involved who may not be able to volunteer.  Any volunteer, whether they are with a group or coming on their own, can download the forms and participate in this campaign to raise funds for home building.


AmeriCorps
HabiJax is one of over 40 Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps sites around the country. Yearly, HabiJax has 10 or more AmeriCorps members that help us achieve our mission. Each year we hire an AmeriCorps team that is dedicated to making a difference and is willing to commit 11 months of service to the organization in the office and on the construction site.  Our AmeriCorps members are an integral part of the Jacksonville affiliate and we are very proud of all they accomplish!  For more information about the AmeriCorps program visit Habitat for Humanity International or AmeriCorps.  For more information about HabiJax's AmeriCorps Program contact the Volunteer Services Department.


Volunteer Recognition
HabiJax wants our volunteers to know how much we appreciate them.  A Volunteer Appreciation Banquet is held annually each February to honor the volunteers who worked with us the previous calendar year.  All regular volunteers are invited as well as any construction or ReStore volunteer who contributed 40 or more hours during the year.  An invitation is also extended to the leaders of our sponsor volunteer groups.
