Open House at Heroes Build Homes
HabiJax continued its celebration of National Homeownership Month with another community engagement event running through Flag Day, June 14th: a three-day Open House at a Heroes Build home in the Lincoln Villas neighborhood of Jacksonville. The home was staged with furniture and décor from the HabiJax ReStore, a home improvement superstore on Beach Boulevard. Visitors must have been impressed by some of the items on display, as several were sold before they could make their way back to the ReStore sales floor!
Team members from construction, real estate, and family services were all on hand to greet visitors, tour any of the five different home models HabiJax has built on adjoining lots in that location, and answer questions. Specialists also helped local workers and families determine on the spot if they were eligible and complete applications for our homeownership program. Guests were so impressed with the homes that they wanted to bring friends and family. HabiJax decided to extend the Open House an extra day.
While these particular homes on Redpoll Ave are being built for veteran and military-connected families through the HabiJax Heroes Build program, the same models are currently being built elsewhere in Duval and Baker counties for any applicants. Photos and 3D tours of each house model are available on our Homes page. (Note that floorplans are the same for each house model built, but flooring, countertops, cabinets, etc. have been updated and will vary).
Each visitor also received a special promo code to cut application fees in half this summer. Veteran and military-connected households can have ALL application fees waived. Duval County residents interested in applying can still get the same promo code in June if they are eligible for our homeownership program and take the quick first step of completing our Eligibility Quiz online.
Special down-payment assistance is also currently available for veteran and military-connected families who would like to purchase one of these five Heroes Build homes, thanks to the generous support of home sponsors CSX, Everbank, The Home Depot, and Swisher.
HabiJax also voices special thanks to Avant Construction and our fantastic superintendent-on-loan Wes Owens for their collaborative efforts in building these five homes. Avant oversaw construction from slab to completion, helped HabiJax safely engage volunteer groups in the work, and set a strong example of an in-kind partnership benefitting local heroes in need of a decent place to live.
